Azotea began with a simple idea: take something humble — the tomato — and bring out its best using nothing more than sun, time, and attention. No additives, no shortcuts. Just real food, prepared the right way.
What started as a small family project in Hidalgo has grown into a commitment to sharing clean, naturally intense flavor with kitchens across North America.
Grown Under Hidalgo Sunlight
Our tomatoes are grown in rural Hidalgo, where long days and warm weather create ideal conditions. Farmers who know their land well tend the vines carefully, and every tomato is picked at its best moment — ripe, bright, and ready to dry.
Why the Name “Azotea”
Azotea means rooftop terrace — the place where we first dried tomatoes for family meals. The name is a reminder of those beginnings: small, natural, and grown and dried in the Hidalgo sun.

We keep our process simple. The tomatoes are first lightly brined to help develop a clean, balanced flavor, then dried using natural heat and controlled airflow — nothing unnecessary added.

Meet the Founder: Lucy Ortega Barraza
Lucy comes from one of the first tomato-farming families in her area — a place where growing, drying, and cooking tomatoes was part of everyday life long before it became a business. She grew up around kitchens where slow cooking, sun-drying, and careful food preparation were the norm.
Azotea is her way of keeping those traditions alive and sharing them beyond her hometown.
She works closely with growers and small producers to ensure every package of sun-dried tomatoes reflects the quality and care behind it.
